Fox STAR Studios to distribute Shah Rukh's 'My Name Is Khan'

Actor-producer Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar have inked one of Bollywood's biggest deals with a Hollywood studio. Fox STAR Studios will finance and distribute their forthcoming film 'My Name Is Khan', reportedly spending Rs.100 crore (Rs.1 billion / $20 million) in the process.
Shah Rukh and Karan, who are co-producing the film, announced their tie-up with Fox STAR Studios, a joint venture between 20th Century Fox and STAR, at a press conference here Thursday.
'We are very happy that Fox STAR Studios is taking responsibility of a film of this stature that too in a different language, though we do speak a bit of English in the film as well. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to take Indian cinema further,' said Shah Rukh.
Though they didn't talk about the money, Fox STAR Studios have reportedly bought distribution rights for around Rs.100 crore for the film about a Muslim (Shah Rukh) who suffers from the Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that impacts social interaction abilities. He is arrested as a suspected terrorist in post-9/11 Los Angeles after authorities mistake his disability for suspicious behaviour.
Fox STAR Studios will market and distribute 'My Name Is Khan' in India, while its sister companies, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox International, will distribute the movie in the US and other territories respectively.
Karan Johar is wielding the megaphone after three years to narrate the emotional journey of a Muslim man from India in the film, in which Shah Rukh has teamed up with Kajol. In the past, the two have starred in hits like 'Baazigar', 'Karan Arjun', 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham'.
Talking about the movie, Karan said: 'I'm almost petrified when it comes to making a movie with Shah Rukh and Kajol. Together, they have given iconic love movies and so they raise the level of expectations each time they are paired.
'This time it is again a love story but with a different treatment. It won't be like 'Dilwale Dulhania...' or 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', nor will it have songs shot in Egypt or Switzerland. But it will still leave a mark in the hearts of people.'
The partnership on 'My Name Is Khan' follows Fox STAR Studios' distribution deal with multiple Oscar-winning 'Slumdog Millionaire' in India earlier this year.

Sania gets engaged to childhood friend

Away from the prying media eyes Indian tennis diva Sania Mirza today got engaged to childhood friend Sohrab Mirza at a plush city hotel. A glittery ceremony at Hotel Taj Krishna here was attended by a few special and close invitees, close to 300, including Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, south movie star Chiranjeevi and some political personalities.

The 23-year-old Sohrab will pursue MBA in Britain and his father owns a chain of bakeries in the city. His family migrated from Iran many years ago and lives in Anand Nagar in the heart of the city.

Much to the disappointment of curious and byte crazy media army, posted outside the venue, not even a single peep into the ceremony was allowed by the Mirza family, which termed it a "family oriented" event. Anxiously waiting shutterbugs were also a dejected lot as they were not allowed to click photographs and were promised distribution of photographs through special arrangements.

Delhi based designers Nikhil and Shantanu had prepared Sania''s green and gold lehnga, a traditional dress, which the tennis sensation wore with old family jewellery. Karthik (Krishnudu), a soft, ever-happy kind of guy, comes to Hyderabad for a job interview at Hi-Rise, an ad agency. He gets selected, and in the office the next day, he sees Kalpana (Sonia) and likes her. He's generally not taken seriously by anyone because of his soft-spoken nature and his rotund personality, but he's the kind who doesn't take that seriously! Kalpana too doesn't care for him and finds faults with him, due to their initial interactions at work. Slowly though, she starts interacting with him more. Her parents, who leave to USA to visiting her brother's family (Mahesh & Aparna), initiate a matrimonial alliance for Kalpana with Rajeev (Samrat). Kalpana meets Rajeev and they both observe that they have a lot of tastes in common. Meanwhile, another thread of a budding relation is seen between Karthik's friend Altaf (Suryatej) and Kalpana's friend Sandhya a.k.a. Sandy (Poonam Kaur). At about the same time that Kalpana realizes Rajeev is not for her, she gets closer to Karthik but the hell gets loose suddenly due to a petty altercation between Altaf and Sandy. Eventually, Karthik and Kalpana lose even the friendly relation they have. What's the big fat love story then and how it evolves forms the rest of the story.

Rajesh (Prasanna) and Gayathri (Sandhya), close pals, running away from home, when Gayathri’s parents force her to marry RK, who was supposedly the bride groom of Gayathri’s elder sister. RK, who falls for Gayathri, plays some dirty trick to avoid her sister and creates a situation where the parents of the girls come forward to marry the younger one to him.

But Gayathri has other plans and of course desires. She runs away with Rajesh but they don’t get married even after they reach a safe place after some gravity defying fights and lot of traveling. Director brings a twist in the tale. Both of them start searching for Bala, an artist, who is Gayathri’s lover. Yes. Rajesh is just her best friend and not lover.

Rajesh tries hard and finds Bala in a bizarre situation. Later, he saves Bala’s life at the risk of his own life. Gayathri, however, refuses to accept his sacrifice and she comes forward to sacrifice her love to save his friend. The climax tells you whose sacrifice wins.
